Grandad - this one's for you!

Well I had planned to post pictures of our veggies in the garden today, but then I forgot to get out and take pictures while the sun was still up! We potted some flowers today too and planted some jasmine vines on our back fence, so by the time we cleaned up and had dinner it was too dark for pictures! Such a gorgeous afternoon though...

So, instead I'm posting a funny video of Kenna swinging (and Adelyn signing) that seems too big to send to anyone via e-mail... Grandad you would be proud - she is swinging so good now! She seems to give me some credit for getting her started but she always talks about you while she's swinging! Anyway, hopefully some garden pics tomorrow, but a few laughs for today... :)

Let the gardening begin!

Well, that's what kenna thought! She didn't realize that even after 3 trips to the store (Calloway's, Home Depot, and the Plant Shed) we still wouldn't have any plants in the ground! While I slaved over digging all the grass up (who needs the gym?), tilling the old soil, mixing in the garden soil, and building the border for our garden, she just wanted to stand there and hold the worms... well I guess someone has to do it! and Adelyn wouldn't even touch them (and I thought she was my get dirty girl - no bugs for her!). So, here is what we have so far...

a huge side yard that we never use!

I just really hope there are no real gardeners reading this since I know I am probably missing all kinds of things, but we'll learn as we go! (and feel free to post any suggestions you think might help!) We actually added a few more inches of soil today so I hope we get to plant our tomatoes and strawberries tomorrow! well, since we wore out the playgrounds in the area last fall, my series this spring will be of the garden we are working on in the backyard! Now, please don't think we won't be at the store buying fruits and veggies this summer, cuz I'm not sure the 4 strawberry plants and 3 tomato plants that we are starting with will be much to eat off of til we get the hang of this, but it sure makes a fun project for the VERY large side yard we have that we don't use at all! :)
