Kenna's PSE Graduation!

This is actually the school's kindergarten graduation, but since she was in the program early and will be doing Kindergarten again at St. John's next year, we decided to celebrate this as her PSE graduation! Such a fun event, and we will really miss the group of kids she has been with this year - such a neat bunch! And of course we won't forget Ms... Hill (that's how Kenna writes it - with 3 dots!). Ask her why and she says 'that's how I like it!'. Oh well, more work on punctuation this next year I guess!! :)

Love the cap and gowns!

Tried to upload the video of them singing chapel songs but Blogger isn't taking it - then they each got to give a rose to Ms. Hill and say one thing they loved about her... Kenna's statement? "I love that she gives us extra snacks!" Cheeseballs is a class favorite :)
Such a fun night - we got the journals the kids have been working on next year, got to see a slide show of great moments throughout the year, and the kids just had a blast! We will certainly miss our PSE...

Gymnastics recital!

The girls have been having a blast this year with
Mrs. Rhonda in gymnastics, and last Friday they
put on a show for us! Could have posted 50 pics of both girls, but you know those action shots are hard to get right! Should've gotten some video,
but my camera man stuck to pictures :-) Adelyn's quote of the day " I can do a forward roll!" over and over again...

Kenna's class did more on the beam, tried spilts, bridges, and handstands... They still needed a bit of help but have come a long way from the beginning of the year... I'm not sure Kenna is cut out to be a gymnast (which is just fine with Joel and I), but it has really boosted her confidence in some things, and loves that head stands make her hiccups go away! Way to go my little All Stars!

we LOVE ladybugs!

Finally broke down and bought one of the ladybug bags at ACE Hardware! If you haven't seen these, it's a bag of say 500 live ladybugs, and it's sort of sad to see them in that little bag, but all the more reason to buy them and let them go! Since our tomato plants are doing well, we decided this might help keep the bugs away! Adelyn missed out on the release this time, but if we need more next year we'll include her in the fun :)
I'm ready!
Trying to coax them out onto the tomato plants...
She loves holding ladybugs, but wasn't too thrilled with the though of them climbing all over her, so she was pretty timid holding the bag. Then I decided to hold it more open and out they came!!
We just pulled out the netting they were hanging on and put it up in the peach tree so they could disperse on their own...

We have yet to see too many hanging around, but a few here and there... was still fun even if they aren't just everywhere! Next year we might have to go for the praying mantis egg sac! :)

My friend Sandy texted me yesterday that they had seen ducklings at our local park, so we grabbed some bread and hoped we could find them... well, we found 3 sets of ducklings! This first group had only 4 ducklings, and the girls had such fun feeding them! The mama was nice, but stayed back a bit checking us out...

Around the other side of the pond we saw a group of people on the dock pointing, so we headed over there just in time to see another group coming out from under the dock! 15 ducklings! and much smaller than the first ones we found :)

Then came another group from across the soccer fields! The girls decided to try to "escort" them to the water (like they weren't going to find it without us!). Can you walk like a duck?
This way ducks! :)

Most of them weren't bigger than Adelyn's shoe!

Well it was a fun afternoon, and I'm sure we will be back to check on them as well! Isn't spring fun!! :)

Happy Mother's Day

To all the moms out there... hope your day is filled with little blessings, happy moments, and maybe a few extra hugs! Of course presents don't hurt, but we already have the best things in life, don't we? I do love all the homemade gifts from my girls, the 'rosies' from my family, and not having to fix a meal all weekend (my gift from my hubby!) but I am trying to be really thankful that I have 2 healthy smart girls and a sweet hubby that love me alot!

To my mom... wish we were closer and could see you more often, but I love that my girls are getting to grow up knowing you and learn from you! Thanks for fielding all my phone calls (I could probably call you every day!) and all the little things you do to help me and the family... I'm sure we don't thank you enough! Happy Mother's Day!

Our first visit from the tooth fairy!

Last night the girls went to school for "Kid's Night Out" while Joel and I did dinner and a movie! When we got home, we went in for a quick teeth brushing, and low and behold - one of Kenna's loose teeth was missing! The lower 2 middle ones have been loose for several weeks, but not that flapping all over with your tongue loose, just a little wiggle with your finger loose! So, not sure what finally pulled the one out last night (and where it went!), but she was sooooo worried that the tooth fairy wouldn't come because she didn't have the tooth to put under her pillow... I am rather sad I won't have the "1st tooth" of my baby for the keepsake box, but man if I could have had audio of her excited scream when she woke up this morning and found the dollar under her pillow that would have been a nice replacement! I thought something was really wrong til she busted in the room screaming "a dollar, I got a dollar" (she had been hollering it from the room as well, but in my sleepy state I hadn't understood it til she was standing right next to me!
I told her we could pull out the other one and then we wouldn't lose it, but she's not ready for that yet! Shouldn't be long though because we can see the big girl teeth already coming in behind them!

Our "almost" new class pet...

Our kitchen manager pulled into the parking lot on Friday to find this not-so-little turtle trying to find his way! We don't have much water near our school, so we have a hunch someone may have dropped him off in our parking lot thinking a preschool would be a good place to dispose of an unwanted turtle! And as much as I would like another class pet (we already have a leopard gecko, Gussie, who is really a great pet for the kids to hold and check-out!) this guy bit the end of the pencil off as I was trying to get him to open his mouth... Why I used a pencil? Not sure, just the first thing that was handed to me and I didn't give much thought to him snapping the end off. So after the crazy endeavour to get the pencil piece out of his mouth, we all decided we needed to find him a new home, and maybe some friends!

Not so happy with his car ride to the park in the bucket...

I took the girls with me to Bear Creek Park, which has a huge creek running through it, and lots of other red-ear slider turtles already, so we figured it would be the best place for him :)

Didn't take much coaxing to get him to poke his head out, and only about 5 seconds to leap into the water...

and he was gone, just like that! The girls weren't sad at all to let him go after they saw his beak snap off a piece of carrot... didn't seem like a great pet to them either!

Hope you enjoy your new home Mr. Turtle! I'm sure we'll be back to the park soon to "look" for him... :)
