Fossil Rim

So Joel chauffered while we hung out in the back of the Tahoe, throwing out food to all the animals! We were warned that the zebras might bite, but didn't get close enough to them anyway. The ostriches were pretty fiesty and would have climbed in the car if they could have, I'm sure... we pretty much fed them and said "Go, Joel, Go!" LOTS of deer. All different kinds - can't even remember all the official names, but the girls really liked seeing "reindeer" and "big Bambi's", so it was still pretty cool...

Our chauffer and the birthday girl!

They were running after us!

I think they were smiling at each other!
Always with the goofy grin!

The girls got to pet this one's horns - crazy!

Then MY favorite part - the giraffes! Only one made it to the car, but it was so cool! Can't imagine what this was like for the people we saw hanging out in the open back of their truck - I've heard these guys can slobber on you! I think we had just enough cover... :)

I would like to say that Adelyn has "giraffe lashes" - check them out! People are always telling me what long lashes she has... if she'll only be so lucky that they stay that way!

So we did the petting zoo halfway through the drive, and on the second half of the trip most of the animals were napping already. The cheetahs in the conservatory were hard to see in the grass, and the rhinos were not up next to the road, so i didn't get very good pictures of them. As the ostriches were waiting for us at the end we knew this was a place we will be back to visit soon!

Dinosaur Valley Inn

Well we had planned to go camping at Dinosaur Valley State Park on our trip to Fossil Rim, but with the heat and my lack of time, effort, energy to pull all the camping stuff together, I finally just decided to have us stay at this neat hotel in Glen Rose. I have to say it will be my recommendation for others wanting to make the trip - especially those with kids! LOVE that they have a nice kiddie pool (covered!) that both girls could safely play in (since we have just started our swim lessons!), and they have a "popcorn and nachos" happy hour in the afternoon that was perfect for chilling out and watching a movie with when it was really hot outside. We had BBQ that night at Hammond's , and pie and ice cream to celebrate Adelyn's birthday!

But when she's mad a little toot!

May 2009

Well seems like we have been doing so much lately, but i don't have any pictures to show for it! Those of you who keep checking in, I promise to be posting more soon!

Since my job offers year round day-care, I am still going strong this summer teaching my discovery class! Kenna will probably move up to the next class in the fall :( but i will still get to see her during rotations. We are learning lots of sign language this summer, getting our hands dirty with all sorts of plants and animals, and I am really looking forward to our Hawaii unit next month! and Adelyn is doing great in her new class and loving her new teachers...

Adelyn will be 2 in one week and although I am so sad to see her growing up so fast, I am ready to be finished with potty training and will hopefully set the girls up soon to be sharing a room! Love to hear any advice on how to successfully bunk 2 kids together... :)

Some fun pics from May:

On our way to Corpus for Beach to Bay we stayed at my parents' place for a night. The highlight of our visit? Grandad decided to let Kenna ride with him on the mower...

Beach to Bay!

Due to my "bone contusion" on my right knee, i didn't run the Beach to Bay marathon relay this year, but Joel's nephews got to run instead - Erik on the left in the red tee, Xander is in the distance in the middle finishing the race off (my leg last year!) - then Uncle Mackey is on the right - we got to celebrate his 40th birthday that evening at Pa and Peggy's house!

and as always, the 'hams' of the party! :)
